Summer Reading Club

Every summer the FBC library sponsors a Summer Reading Club for children ages 3 - grade 6.  All readers receive stickers for every book read.  At the Awards Party every child who reads 15 books receives a certificate.  A book is placed in the FBC Library in honor of every child who reads:

30 books in Read to Me (ages 3-K)

25 books in Grades 1-3

15 books in Grades 4-6

Numerous studies have shown that summer reading programs help children retain reading skills over the summer break.  Don't miss the fun!  For more information, call Nancy Uriniak, FBC Librarian at 723-2764, ext. 264 or email her at nuriniak@fbcwf.org

Together With Books

Story Time for Parent and Child is a special ministry of the library in cooperation with the preschool ministry.  It is held in the library at 10:00 a.m. on the second Thursday of each month, September through May, for children ages 3 to 5.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.  Siblings are always welcome.

During story time, a carefully selected picture book is read to the children by the librarian or special guest.  Then the children make an age-appropriate craft or participate in a special activity that relates to the story.  Parents are encouraged to spend time reading to their children while in the library and may check out books to take home.

The purpose of Together with Books is to:

• Expose preschoolers and their parents to good children’s literature
• Enable parents to spend quality time with their preschoolers at church
• Develop a love of reading from an early age
• Help parents select the best books for their children
• Introduce young families to the resources of the library
• Reach preschoolers and their families for the Lord Jesus Christ and First Baptist Church

For more information call Nancy Uriniak, FBC Librarian at 940.723.2764 ext. 264 or email her at nuriniak@fbcwf.org

Encouragement for Mothers Who Teach

The First Baptist Church Library is a place of encouragement for mothers who teach their children at home. The library has one of the best collections of resources for homeschooling parents in this area. Nancy Uriniak, church librarian, is an experienced homeschool mom and is happy to answer your questions and direct you to the right resource for your need. The children’s collection has a wonderful selection of “living books” for the homeschooled child, many of which are recommended in some of the best homeschooling curriculum guides such as Five in a Row, Sonlight, TruthQuest and My Father’s World. All homeschooling families in this area are invited to use the First Baptist Church Library. Please come by the library and check us out!

“One of the highest of human duties is the duty of encouragement. It is easy to laugh at men’s ideas, it is easy to pour cold water on their enthusiasm; it is easy to discourage others. The world is full of discouragers. We have a Christian duty to encourage one another. Many a time a word of praise or thanks or appreciation or cheer has kept a man on his feet. Blessed is the man who speaks such a word.” William Barclay

“Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who hope in the Lord.” Psalm 31:24

Summer Reading Club for Moms!

Don't let your children have all the fun!  When you sign your children up for the Summer Reading Club pick up a reading log for yourself.  Take a book with you to the baseball field, doctor's office, park or swimming pool.  When your children see you reading, they'll want to read, too.  It's great exercise for your mind.  And moms get prizes too!

The FBC library has great fiction, chick lit, inspiring biographies and wonderful "how to" books on Christian living, parenting, decorating, etc.  Come by the library and check us out!
